Their future, however, was cast into doubt in December, when drummer James 'The Rev' Sullivan died of drug and alcohol problems.

The band last played in the UK to sold-out crowds in 2008, when they also picked up a Kerrang! award for best album and a Metal Hammer Golden Gods award for best international band.

Sonisphere Festival: In Knebworth rock history

He added: “I can’t wait for next year!”

Sonisphere Festival mastermind Stuart Galbraith also hailed Rammstein’s display of fire, flames and special effects.

The veteran rock promoter said: “Rammstein are a phenomenon. They are absolutely unique, aren’t they? The scale of their show, the presentation of their show... and the fact I actually like about them is that they don’t take themselves too seriously.”

Alice Cooper headlined the first night of this year’s festival, with heavy metal legends Iron Maiden bringing proceedings to an epic conclusion on the Sunday.

Sonisphere show on the back, new album to the Iron Maiden The Final Frontier entered the UK charts at number one last weekend.

Sonisphere will return to Knebworth next July.

At Sonisphere Festival Missing teenagers




For two missing teenagers POLICE searching believe they may be attending this weekend to the Sonisphere Festival.
Georgia Bowden, 14, a week ago (23 July) was last seen and her boyfriend, 16 year old Jake Holley, has been missing since Sunday, July 25.
The group, who are believed to be together, were both last seen in the Kingston area of London, but information suggests the couple have plans to attend the rock festival Sonisphere, held in Knebworth from Friday until Sunday.
Georgia is described as white, 5ft 7in tall with very long brown hair, and was wearing a black T-shirt with white writing on it and black jogging bottoms. She may be bare foot as she has left her shoes at home.
As white Jake is described, 5ft 7in tall with blond hair.
He has piercings through his right eyebrow, and in his nose and it is possible that he may have cut or shaven his hair since the photo was taken.

Sonisphere Festival Traffic measures


DRIVERS are being made aware of traffic measures set to be introduced for the forthcoming Sonsiphere festival in Knebworth.
A Highways Agency spokesman said there will be closures of northbound entry slip road and southbound exit slip road at junction 7 of the A1 (M) during the event.
These closures will come into effect from 12pm on Friday July 30 and be in place until 12pm on Monday August 2. A clearly signed diversion will be in place.
These measures are meant to assist pedestrian access across the bridge at junction 7 for those attending the festival.
Traffic seeking to join the A1 (M) northbound at junction 7 will be diverted to junction 8 via the A602 Broadhall Way, A1072 Gunnels Wood Road and A602 Hitchin Road.
Southbound road users wishing to exit at junction 7 should follow the same route in reverse .

Sonisphere Festival : Big Four Going To The Movies

We’ve got good news for metalheads dying to hit up this summer’s Sonisphere Festival but lacking the cash to buy a plane ticket to Europe. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax will appear at select movie theaters around the world next month in a satellite screening of the June 22 Sofia, Bulgaria, show featuring the “Big Four” of thrash metal.

The screening will take place the same day as the show in 450 movie theatres in over 140 markets in the U.S., as well as theaters in Europe, Canada and Latin America. Fans in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand will also be able to join in on the fun with plans for delayed screenings.

“The Big Four: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax” screening will include nearly four hours of music as well as behind-the-scenes material from the fest.

"Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal's Big Four would not only still be around, be more popular than ever, playing shows together at stadiums all over Europe, and on top of that, coming to a movie theater near you in High Definition. Bring it on!" Metallica’s Lars Ulrich said in a statement.
