Sonisphere rock and metal fans fell in silence

Sonisphere rock and metal fans fell in silence in respect at 2.00 the festival's organizers and the band's first UK appearance since his death as Slipknot honoured late bassist Paul Gray.

Week period of time, thousands gathered at the festival site and fell silent.

The PA boomed out Slipknot’s ‘Vermilion Part 2’ ahead of the remembrance. In a last interview Corey Taylor explained the poignant idea behind the song

Taylor says, “The differences (between the two tracks) are subtle — ‘Vermilion, Pt. 1′ is about the enrapturing, the buildup, the anticipation and the neurosis”

“‘Part 2′ is the aftermath, the pieces that have to be picked up later, and maybe the guilt of having lived through it.”

Radio presenter and Hexes frontman addressed the audience simply saying:

“You all know why we’re here, right?
“The band are all here and they want you to know that they are eternally grateful and Paul Gray would be very touched”

Slipknot will perform at Sonisphere Festival on Sunday (July 10)

A news released on 7th July 2011, Slipknot will perform at Sonisphere Festival on Sunday (July 10).

In a statement, the Iowa gig the band an "epic and emotional occasion", will be, due to the fact that their bassist Paul Gray's death is first in the UK.

The band said, "England has always been a special place for this band from the very beginning. We can’t think of a better way to culminate our celebration of Paul’s life than to share it with the maggots at Knebworth and the millions more watching around the world. This is not to be missed".

Festival producer Stuart Galbraith said that the first event is streamed over the Internet.

Metal's 'big four', Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax perform at Sonisphere Festival on 8th July.

You Me At Six and Weezer perform before headliners Biffy Clyro on Saturday 9, while Limp Bizkit, Motorhead and Mastodon are on the bill for Sunday.
